Ah Dai, born in Alor Setar in 1950, has loved reading since childhood. When she was growing up, she was able to access leftist reading material. She used to help the Malayan Communist Party (MCP) to deliver letters as a runner, but she has never been a party member and her identity (involvement) has remained a secret until today. In 2000, she married an ex-MCP member.
